Thunderchild Energy Services Inc. (“TES”), based in Calgary, AB, is a Thunderchild First Nation majority-owned energy services company, focused on best-practices in the full life-cycle of environmental and engineering services, including asset retirement in the western Canadian energy sector.


Pat Whelan, President & CEO

With over 25 years of executive leadership and business development experience, Pat Whelan is a veteran when it comes to building successful companies from the ground up. Known as a visionary leader with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, strategic mindset and ability to be agile in an ever-changing market, Pat has championed the creation of multiple start-up companies, from ideation to market execution. Working in a multitude of International markets, he has extensive global experience with many cultures, across multiple verticals within the business development space.

As the President of Thunderchild Energy Services, Pat helps oversee and lead communications with key stakeholders in the First Nations community, ensuring all parties are satisfied and aligned with the overarching business strategy and vision. Acting as a trusted advisor to the team, he has played a fundamental role in the development of the company, helping to drive investments and shape the corporate culture.

As a transformational leader who is passionate about career growth and professional development, Pat prides himself on mentoring his employees and providing interactive leadership. He is heavily invested in providing his team with mentorship and development opportunities which seek to nurture and challenge them. Throughout his career, this approach has led to the creation of resilient, intelligent and nimble teams, which has helped drive strong performance and results.

Prior to founding Thunderchild Energy Services, Pat served in numerous founding, executive and leadership roles such as Executive Vice President at Westleaf Cannabis Inc., Director of Business Development for Ensign Energy Services, the President and CEO of Atlantic Directional Inc. and the Vice President of Operations for NorthStar Drilling Systems.

Curtis Heide, Vice President & COO

Curtis has worked in oil and gas development for over 20 years, both for large integrated companies and small junior start-ups. During that time, he has worked in the heavy oil fields surrounding Lloydminster in Alberta and Saskatchewan in both conventional and thermal operations. In 2008, Curtis worked to establish the successful CSS thermal pilot project at Onion Lake Cree First nation which has grown to a 12,000 BOEPD commercial SAGD operation. Curtis has worked closely with many First Nations to advance economic diversity and create value through natural resource development, commercial developments and indigenous owned businesses.

Brad Dunne, Vice President & CFO

Brad has worked for various mid and large cap Canadian producers in a variety of accounting and project roles including Joint Venture, Production Accounting, IOGC Royalties, Budgets and Forecasting. He holds a BBA in Accounting from SAIT.
